A Hudson test is an online reasoning test from Hudson, the Belgian assessment publisher headquartered in Ghent and part of Randstad since 2021. Its abstract, numerical and verbal reasoning tests come at three job levels, from operational to senior management, and are timed multiple choice assessments usually taken online during screening. Personality and motivation questionnaires such as the Business Attitudes Questionnaire sit alongside the ability range.
Which Hudson test you sit depends on the employer and the role: an entry-level position will not be given the same assessment as a graduate or managerial one.
Four things to know before you sit one. Timings and difficulty vary with the level of the role.
Match the name in your invitation to the assessment below. Timings marked “approx.” are completion estimates; other published durations are limits for the named version.
| Assessment | What it measures | Questions | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hudson numerical reasoning | Ratios, percentages, number series, data interpretation, currency conversion | Varies by assessment | See invitation |
| Hudson verbal reasoning | A six to ten line passage, then true, false or cannot say | Varies by assessment | See invitation |
| Hudson abstract reasoning | Shapes, patterns and figures; which box comes next | Varies by assessment | See invitation |
| Business Attitudes Questionnaire | Five personality traits from rated statements | Varies by assessment | See invitation |
Counts and timings vary by role level and by the version an employer licences. Check the instructions on the screen before you start. Facts checked 11 September 2026.
Hudson adapts its assessment programme to the role and job level. Its public candidate guide does not specify universal question counts or a 90-second allowance; check your invitation.

Based on 2827 completed practice sittings, all time. Checked 30 September 2026.
The 75th percentile marks the boundary of the top quarter of recorded scores; tied scores can share that boundary. These are our practice results, not employer pass marks.
We use all-time completed, scored attempts at this practice test. Repeat attempts count separately, so the sample is sittings rather than unique people.
The average is the mean score across those sittings. The 75th percentile comes from their recorded score distribution. The “checked” date is when we retrieved the figures, not the period when the tests were taken.

One question tells you the style. A pack gives you the pace: See invitation a question, marked, with the working shown.
The numerical reasoning test assesses your ability to deal with numbers quickly and accurately, with questions on ratios, percentages, number sequences, data interpretation, financial analysis and currency conversion.
Questions use multiple-choice responses. Follow the timing and calculator instructions for your named assessment; scrap paper can help with working where permitted.
How many more Australian Dollars (AUD) could you buy with 2,000 British Pounds in 2022 compared to 2023?
a) $360
b) $420
c) $520
d) $1,580
Answer : a) $360.
£2,000 × 1.49 = AUD 2,980
£2,000 × 1.31 = AUD 2,620
2,980 - 2,620 = AUD 360
The verbal reasoning test presents a short passage of six to ten lines and asks whether a statement is true, false or cannot say. Read the passage carefully and use the time allowance specified for your assessment.
Statement : Free range poultry is less profitable for farmers to produce than battery chickens.
a) Cannot tell
b) True
c) False
Answer : a) Cannot tell. The second paragraph details both advantages and disadvantages to producing free range chicken. While it costs more to raise free range chickens, they can be sold at a higher price. No direct economic comparison is given with battery chickens.
The abstract reasoning test, which Hudson also calls conceptual reasoning, uses shapes, patterns and figures rather than numbers and words. It is the part of the battery closest to a standard IQ test, and employers read it as a measure of how rationally and analytically you approach an unfamiliar problem.
Which of the boxes comes next in the sequence?
Answer : E). Large shapes alternate between diamond and ring (where ring number decreases by one) with each turn. Diagonal corner lines appear in each alternate frame and increase in an anti-clockwise direction with each turn. For every diamond shape, the corner square decreases by one in the following frame, in an anti-clockwise direction.
A personality questionnaire rather than a test, with no right or wrong answers. You rate a series of statements by how strongly you agree, and the result profiles you on five core traits: conscientiousness, extraversion, openness, altruism and emotional stability. Keep the characteristics the role calls for in mind, but answer as yourself.
What candidates ask us most often
The one for the job level you applied for. Hudson publishes each reasoning test in three versions, for operational roles, junior managers and middle or senior managers, and the employer picks the version. If the invitation does not say, the job title is the clue; the senior version is the hardest and the most likely to leave questions unanswered.
After all three reasoning tests the recruiter receives an overall score with a level, and three sub-scores describing your working style and strengths. There is no pass mark on the report; the employer decides what the level means for the role.
Whilst it’s good practice to run through the questionnaire beforehand, it’s important to remember to be yourself and be truthful with your answers throughout. There are no right or wrong answers, so the best way to approach this part of the test is to be candid and true to yourself.
Hudson tests are taken online, usually from home, after an employer invites you to complete them. The tests are published by Hudson, the Belgian assessment specialist that is part of Randstad.
Rated 4.6 out of 5 across 29 reviews. A selection:
Very useful to find out what kind of questions can appear in the test; tried to guess/estimate to get the answers quickly; might be convenient to have a calculator for some questions
I like that there was an overall time for the whole test and not a certain time limit by question. I would like to understand also where I need to improve
Interesting and clear graphs. However, the data and question could not be presented on the same page simultaneously.
